The East Bay Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
is a program for individuals 55 years and older who want to contribute their time and energy to impact and improve conditions in the community. Over 750 volunteers make a positive difference in the lives of their neighbors, while meeting friends and developing new interests and skills at 150 sites from East Providence to Newport.

Members of the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)
help children develop the skills, confidence, and strength to succeed in life. Foster Grandparents make their neighborhoods stronger by helping children with special needs and providing much needed attention that can change lives. FGP's assist in schools, Head Start sites and day care centers throughout the East Bay.

RSVP volunteers must be 55 years of age or older. People serving as FGP's must be 55 years or older and income eligible.

East Bay RSVP/FGP services the city of East Providence and both Bristol and Newport Counties.

East Bay RSVP Launches 2010 VITA Tax Preparation Program

The maximum Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) amount for tax year 2009 is up to $5,657.00…

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program at East Bay Community Action will be launching and administering the 2009 income tax return season from January 20-April 15, 2010.   If you are low to moderate income ($49,000), the East Bay Community Action VITA Program can assist you in tax preparation at no cost. IRS trained VITA Volunteers will  complete and electronically file your return and assist in determining your eligibility for the Earned Income Credit.

The 2009 Earned Income Tax Credit is as follows:

  • 0 children/Earned income less than $13,440 = $457 maximum credit
  • 1 child/Earned income less than $35,463 = $3,043 maximum credit
  • 2 children/Earned income less than $40,295 = $5,028 maximum credit
  • 3 or more children/Earned income less than $43,281 = $5,657 maximum credit!

“About 25% of Earned Income Tax Credit dollars in Rhode Island go unclaimed,” said East Bay RSVP Director Audrey Field. “This year, we hope to assist more people, not only in preparing taxes and promoting the EITC credit, but  by focusing on the financial literacy of the client. Citizens Bank will be on site opening no cost bank accounts, helping folks take the first steps towards financial stability and independence. Additionally, Roger Williams University is providing IRS VITA trained student volunteers, and we’re increasing our site venues by partnering with Bristol Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen to enhance exposure of our services. Energy, education, new vehicle and homebuyer credits are also available to help maximize returns.  Our tax team is excited and ready to roll.” she finished.
