Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The East Bay RSVP VITA Program offers free tax assistance to low to moderate income, generally, $45,000 and below.
Certified volunteers sponsored by East Bay RSVP receive training by the IRS to help prepare basic to intermediate level tax returns.
Four East Bay Community Action VITA sites are located throughout the East Bay area including Newport County. All locations offer free electronic filing from January-April 2010. To locate the nearest East Bay Community Action VITA site, call RSVP at 1-401-435-7876
Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)
The Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program provides free tax assistance to people age 55 and older. Trained volunteers from East Bay RSVP provide no cost basic to intermediate income tax return preparation for senior citizens. The East Providence Reads Program
The East Providence Reads Program is designed to enhance the literacy skills of young children of East Providence. Volunteers from both RSVP and the East Providence business community provide their time and skills to help young readers in the elementary schools achieve and improve reading scores. This once a week commitment runs from September until June, and is a signature program here in RSVP. Whether you have one hour per week, or several, you may find the flexible East Providence Reads schedule something that fits nicely within your lifestyle.
The Seniors' Health Insurance Program (SHIP) answers questions and counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare Part D (low income subsidized program), Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns. The counselors on our toll free line offers free and unbiased counseling on Medicare health care products.
