Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Volunteers:
RSVP Reads classroom volunteers assist in East Providence schools for an hour a week, at a scheduled time, day and classroom. The role of the volunteer within the class is decided solely by the teacher, and therefore is a unique experience for the individual. Volunteers may be assisting in classrooms reading to children, working on classroom/homework assignments, helping students with math activities, helping a child learn the alphabet or improving reading comprehension.

Mentors:
The volunteer will mentor a child for one hour a week for an entire school year (September until June). The volunteer forms a one-to-one relationship with a student who needs their support and attention. The volunteer’s role includes being a positive role-model, being an active listener, being a supportive friend, helping with educational goal setting, helping their student to focus on individual strengths and guiding their student through the decision-making process.

Soup Kitchens:
A need exists to create a safe environment in which meals are provided to those in need. Many recipients of services are impaired in some way. Volunteers help to set up tables and serve meals to homeless and low-income individuals.

* We have weekly, bi-weekly and occasional assignments.
