WHAT’S ON YOUR CALENDAR?

Have you been thinking about how you and some friends can spend some time together making a difference in your community? RSVP is never short of exciting opportunities that serve as an adventure and a mountain of fun for seniors across the area. Bookworm? No problem, share your love of literacy with a youngster in one of the many elementary schools across East Providence with East Providence Reads. If you’re a history buff, no worries, the Steamship Historical Society of America and local historical preservation societies are looking for someone like you.

It may just be you’re looking for that extra challenge that you know will change the life of a child. Court Appointed Special Advocates have such opportunities. CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court. In our overburdened welfare system, abused and neglected children often fall between the cracks among hundreds of cases. Are you ready to stand up for a child who needs you?

Christy Hassel, Volunteer Coordinator from Beacon Hospice, has pulled out all the stops on recruiting volunteers even for the smallest of tasks in achieving the many services that hospice provides for patients and their families.

In Newport County, whether you’re a retired nurse or someone with clerical skills, a visiting nurse organization would be a great place to spend some time. Bring a smile to the face of a child in schools, libraries, or a senior in a local nursing home with your volunteer endeavors.

If you want to be involved in more ways to go Green, we have several organizations such as our own East Bay Community Action Program dedicated to the environment through Green Light Rhode Island, along with Roger Williams University and the Wind Turbine Survey Study, another contemporary opportunity to step in and help make a difference.
